Good News of Moshiach
Hashem spoke to His people Yisroel in many ways. Angels appeared and conveyed messages. Hakodesh Baruch Hu (the L-rd) raised up Novi’im (Prophets) who both spoke and wrote His words. And Hakodesh Baruch Hu spoke loudly through His mighty deeds, such as redeeming the new nation of Yisroel from bondage in Egypt and then conquering the peoples in the Promised Land ( Eretz Yisroel).
Hashem chose Avraham Avinu (our father Abraham) and revealed Himself to him. Hakodesh Baruch Hu told Avraham Avinu, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Bereshis 12:2-3).
What was this worldwide blessing that Hashem promised? It was Hakodesh Baruch Hu sending His Anointed One (Moshiach) to rule and reign over the entire earth from Yerushalayim. One day the world would be a righteous place with no sin, pain, or death.
Avraham Avinu later lamented to Hashem that he had no heir. At this point Hashem said, “One who will come from your own body shall be your heir” (Bereshis 15:5).
This one who would be miraculously born from the union of Avraham Avinu and Sarai was the Anointed One, the One who would establish peace and righteousness on earth.
Moishe Rabbenu then tells us this wonderful truth, “And he [Avraham Avinu] believed in the L-rd, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.” (Bereshis 15:6)
Though Avraham Avinu was a man with a nature like ours and thus shared our sinfulness, he was nonetheless accounted as righteous by Hashem. Why? Because Avraham Avinu believed Hashem.
And what did Avraham Avinu believe? He believed that because of his faith in this Coming One (the Moshiach), he was guaranteed to spend eternity in that glorious kingdom.
His faith motivated him to serve Hashem with his whole heart. Twenty five years later he actually willingly offered up his only son, Isaac, on an altar, at the direction of Hashem.
Avraham Avinu’s deeds did not justify him before Hakodesh Baruch Hu. “He believed in the L-rd and He accounted it [his faith] to him for righteousness.” (Bereshis 15:6)
We see this theme in various places in the Tenach. Iyov (Job) also believed in the coming Moshiach and was sure he would take part in the glorious kingdom: “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God” (Iyov 19:25-26).
Moishe Rabbenu too believed in the Coming One. “And the L-rd said to me: ‘what they have said is good. I will raise up for them a N ovi (Prophet) like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him’” (Devarim 18:17-19). Moishe Rabbenu knew that we must believe the words of Hakodesh Baruch Hu concerning the Coming One, here called a Novi like you, in order to enter and participate in His eternal kingdom.
Dovid ha-Melech wrote of Moshiach and His glorious kingdom. “The L-rd said to my L-rd, ‘Sit at My right hand till I make Your enemies Your footstool.’ The L-rd shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies” (Tehillim 110:1-2).
Hashem revealed that this One whom Dovid ha-Melech calls my L-rd would be his descendent: “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.” While Shlomo ha-Melech (King Solomon) was indeed God’s representative on earth in that generation, however he did not rule forever. Another Ben Dovid would come after Shlomo ha-Melech who would rule and reign forever.
Micha ha-novi [the prophet] tells us that this Coming One would be born in Bethlehem (Micha 5:1).
Daniel tells us that this One whom he calls the Son of Man (Daniel 7:13) would come 69 “shavuim” (“weeks”) after the time “of the command to restore and rebuild Yerushalayim” (Daniel 9:26). Sixty-nine “shavuim,” where each “shavuim” stands for 7 years (of 360 days each), equals 483 years (or 476 years of 365 days). The decree to rebuild Yerushalayim was made by Artexerxes in 444 BCE. This means that the time when “Moshiach will be cut off, but not for Himself” (Daniel 9:26) would be approximately 33 CE.
Moshiach was yet future when Moishe Rabbenu, Dovid ha-Melech and Daniel wrote. But this is not the case today. Moshiach has already come once, and fulfilled the first 69 “shavuim” of Daniel’s prophecy.
One shavuim remains, Daniel’s 70 th shavuim. “Then he [a world ruler] shall confirm a covenant with many for one shavuim [seven years]; but in the middle of the shavuim he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate” (Daniel 9:27).
There has been a long prophetic gap between Daniel’s 69 th and 70 th shavuim. We are now on the doorstep of that last shavium. After that seven year time period, Moshiach will come again and will establish his eternal reign on earth.
Is that not good news? Our Moshiach has come!! He was cut off, but not for Himself. He was cut off for us, for Yisroel and for all of mankind (including the goyim). All who simply believe in Him for everlasting life in His kingdom receive it freely with no strings attached.
The Moshiach is Yeshua (Jesus) of Nazareth. He is Daniel’s Son of Man. He is the Suffering Servant Yeshayah prophesied: “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities…the L-rd has laid on Him the iniquity of us all” (Yeshayah 53:5-6).
Yeshua said, “He who believes in Me has everlasting life” (Yochanan 6:47). Just as Avraham Avinu was accounted righteous by faith, so are all. There is no other way. All who believe in Moshiach Yeshua are guaranteed eternity in His coming kingdom as well as eternal life which starts the very moment we believe in Him.
How earth longs for the return of Moshiach. Righteousness on earth is such good news. It is coming soon. Will you be part of that righteous kingdom? You will if you believe in Moshiach Yeshua!
