HEBREW SCRIPTURE (TANAKH) PROPHECIES OF THE MOSHIACH FULFILLED IN THE BRIT CHADASHA (NEW COVENANT)

1. MOSHIACH WAS TO BE BORN IN BETHLEHEM

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me, the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.”

Micah 5:1

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

Now after Yeshua was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him." When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Moshiach was to be born. They said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet: ' AND YOU, BETHLEHEM, LAND OF JUDAH, ARE BY NO MEANS LEAST AMONG THE LEADERS OF JUDAH; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME FORTH A RULER WHO WILL SHEPHERD MY PEOPLE ISRAEL.' "

Matthew 2:1-6 (see also Luke 2:1-20)

2. MOSHIACH WAS TO BE BORN OF A VIRGIN

Therefore the L-RD Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel (literally G-d with us).

Isaiah 7:14

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

Now the birth of Yeshua Moshiach was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly. But when he had considered this, behold an angel of the L-rd appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. "She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Yeshua, for He will save His people from their sins." Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the L-L-rd through the prophet: " BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, " G-D WITH US." And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the L-rd commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, but kept her a virgin until she gave birth to a Son; and he called His name Yeshua.

Matthew 1:18-25 (see also Luke 1:26-38)

3. MOSHIACH WAS TO BE A PROPHET LIKE UNTO MOSES

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

The L-RD your G-d will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.

Deuteronomy 18:15, 18, 19

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

But when it was now the midst of the feast Yeshua went up into the temple, and began to teach. The Jews then were astonished, saying, "How has this man become learned, having never been educated?" So Yeshua answered them and said, "My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me. "If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of G-D or whether I speak from myself.

John 7:14-17

Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, "This certainly is the Prophet." Others were saying, "This is the Moshiach." Still others were saying, "Surely the Moshiach is not going to come from Galilee, is He?  "Has not the Scripture said that the Moshiach comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"  So a division occurred in the crowd because of Him.  Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him. The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, "Why did you not bring Him?" The officers answered, "Never has a man spoken the way this man speaks."

John 7:40-46 (see also Acts 3:22-26)

4. MOSHIACH WAS TO ENTER JERUSALEM IN TRIUMPH

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Zechariah 9:9

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethpage, at the Mount of Olives, then Yeshua sent two disciples, saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. "If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The L-rd has need of them,' and immediately he will send them." This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet: " SAY TO THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, 'BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU, GENTLE, AND MOUNTED ON A DONKEY, EVEN ON A COLT, THE FOAL OF A BEAST OF BURDEN.' "The disciples went and did just as Yeshua had instructed them, and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on the coats. Most of the crowd spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David; BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE L-RD; Hosanna in the highest!"

Matt 21:1-9 (see also John 12:12-16)

5. MOSHIACH WAS TO BE REJECTED BY HIS OWN PEOPLE

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the L-RD revealed? He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Isaiah 53:1, 3

The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

Psalm 118:22

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of G-d, even to those who believe in His name,

John 1:11-12

But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke: " L-RD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT? AND TO WHOM HAS THE ARM OF THE L-RD BEEN REVEALED?" For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, " HE HAS BLINDED THEIR EYES AND HE HARDENED THEIR HEART, SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT SEE WITH THEIR EYES AND PERCEIVE WITH THEIR HEART, AND BE CONVERTED AND I HEAL THEM." These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him. Nevertheless many even of the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of G-d.

John 12:37-43 (see also Matthew 26:3, 4 and Acts 4:1-12)

6. MOSHIACH WAS TO BE BETRAYED BY ONE OF HIS FOLLOWERS

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.

Psalm 41:9

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

Then one of the twelve, named Judas Iscariot went to the chief priests and said, "What are you willing to give me to betray Him to you?" And they weighed out thirty pieces of silver to him. From then on he began looking for a good opportunity to betray Yeshua.

Matthew 26:14-16

While He was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came up accompanied by a large crowd with swords and clubs, who came from the chief priests and elders of the people. Now he who was betraying Him gave them a sign, saying, "Whomever I kiss, He is the one; seize Him." Immediately Judas went to Yeshua and said, "Hail, Rabbi!" and kissed Him. And Yeshua said to him, "Friend, do what you have come for." Then they came and laid hands on Yeshua and seized Him.

Matthew 26:47-50 (see also Mark 14:17-21, Luke 22:19-23 and John 13:18, 19)

7. MOSHIACH WAS TO BE TRIED AND CONDEMNED

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? For he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

Isaiah 53:8

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Yeshua to put Him to death; and they bound Him, and led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate the governor.

Matthew 27:1-2 (see also Luke 23:1-25)

8. MOSHIACH WAS TO BE SILENT BEFORE HIS ACCUSORS

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.

Isaiah 53:7

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He did not answer. Then Pilate said to Him, "Do You not hear how many things they testify against You?" And He did not answer him with regard to even a single charge, so the governor was quite amazed.

Mathew 27:12-14 (see also Mark 15:3-4 and Luke 23:8-10)

9. MOSHIACH WAS TO BE SMITTEN AND SPAT UPON BY HIS ENEMIES

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

They shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

Micah 5:1

I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

Isaiah 50:6

FULFILLMENTIN BRIT CHADASHA:

Then they spat in His face and beat Him with their fists; and others slapped Him.

Mark 14:65 (see also Mark 15:19, Luke 22:63, 64 and John 19:1-3)

10. MOSHIACH WAS TO BE MOCKED AND TAUNTED

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He trusted on the L-RD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.

Psalm 22:7, 8

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads and saying, "You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of G-D, come down from the cross." In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying, "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. " HE TRUSTS IN G-D; LET G-D RESCUE Him now, IF HE DELIGHTS IN HIM; for He said, 'I am the Son of G-d.' "

Matthew 27:38-43 (see also Luke 23:11, 35)

11. MOSHIACH WAS TO DIE BY CRUCIFIXION

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked has enclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.

Psalm 22:14, 16, 17

FULFILLMENTIN BRIT CHADASHA:

15. MOSHIACH’S BONES WERE NOT TO BE BROKEN

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it.

Numbers 9:12

Neither shall ye break a bone thereof.

Exodus 12:46

FULFILLMENT IN BRIT CHADASHA:

Then the Jews, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. So the soldiers came, and broke the legs of the first man and of the other who was crucified with Him; but coming to Yeshua, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, " NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN."

John 19:31-36

16. MOSHIACH WAS TO DIE AS A SACRIFICE FOR SIN

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way: and the L-RD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all… For the transgression of my people was he stricken… When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin. He shall see his seed. He shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the L-RD shall prosper in his hand… He shall bear their iniquities… and he bore the sin of many.

Now he did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Yeshua was going to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of G-d who are scattered abroad.

John 11:49-52 (see also Acts 10:43, Acts 13:38,39, I Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, I Peter 2:24, 25 and I John 1:7,9)

PROPHECY FROM THE TANAKH:

For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to Sheol; Neither wilt Thou allow Thy Holy One to undergo decay.

Psalm 16:10

FULFILLMENTIN BRIT CHADASHA:

"Men of Israel, listen to these words: Yeshua the Nazarene, a man attested to you by G-D with miracles and wonders and signs which G-D performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know— this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of G-D, you nailed to a cross by the hands of G-dless men and put Him to death. "But G-D raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.”For David says of Him, ' I SAW THE L-RD ALWAYS IN MY PRESENCE; FOR HE IS AT MY RIGHT HAND, SO THAT I WILL NOT BE SHAKEN. 'THEREFORE MY HEART WAS GLAD AND MY TONGUE EXULTED; MOREOVER MY FLESH ALSO WILL LIVE IN HOPE; BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT ABANDON MY SOUL TO HADES, NOR ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY. 'YOU HAVE MADE KNOWN TO ME THE WAYS OF LIFE; YOU WILL MAKE ME FULL OF GLADNESS WITH YOUR PRESENCE.' "Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. "And so, because he was a prophet and knew that G-D HAD SWORN TO HIM WITH AN OATH TO SEAT one OF HIS DESCENDANTS ON HIS THRONE, he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Moshiach, that HE WAS NEITHER ABANDONED TO HADES, NOR DID His flesh SUFFER DECAY. "This Yeshua G-D raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.
